Biography
In the dynamic intersection of electronic music and jazz, two visionary artists, Chiminyo and Wonky Logic, have embarked on an audacious musical journey. 'Tune :/: Situation' is a genre-blurring sonic voyage that demands attention.
Hailing from the New Forest, but with Tottenham as home for over a decade, Chiminyo is a drummer and producer renowned for crafting a mesmerising fusion of live percussion and cutting-edge electronic production. Armed with self-coded software, his debut EP 'I Am Chiminyo' was a critical triumph, earning him accolades from the likes of Gilles Peterson, BBC 1Xtra, and Jazz FM. This innovative sound even secured him the Jazz FM Digital Awards and a Worldwide FM Award nomination. In 2020, Chiminyo expanded his sonic horizons with 'I Am Panda,' an exploration into future pop and psychedelia, showcasing his fearless artistic evolution. But Chiminyo's sonic explorations don't end with his solo ventures. He leads the synth-driven ensemble, Uniri, and has garnered acclaim for his live improvised electronic-jazz vinyl releases on his label, NRG Discs. His talent has also attracted collaborations with luminaries like Gary Bartz, Nubya Garcia, Shabaka Hutchings, Theon Cross, and Zara McFarlane.
Meanwhile, Wonky Logic, brings a unique perspective to the collaboration. His journey from crafting beats on his mum's computer on a Leeds council estate to becoming a founding member of the acclaimed band Steam Down is a testament to his musical prowess. And his odyssey has led to extensive touring across Europe, South America, Africa, and Asia, collaborating with notable artists such as Nubya Garcia, Theon Cross, Wiyaala, Afla Sakey, and K.O.G. He leapt back into the world of beatmaking with '0113,' a groundbreaking album marked by his signature wonky beats and swirling synths. Wonky Logic's versatility shines through collaborations with artists like Sampa The Great and I.G Culture.
After one spontaneous duo performance together at Bristols legendary Worm Disco Club they decided to mark this collaboration in the studio. Using the same improvisatory format, 'Tune :/: Situation' is the direct result of their distinctive synergy and the result is nothing shy of unique, effortlessly weaving together Chiminyo's live percussion and unique production style with Wonky Logic's rhythmic complexity, synth wizardry and beatmaking finesse. Featuring poets and rappers such as Brother Portrait and Nadeem Din-Gabisi, this album transcends genres and breaks all the conventions making a truly unique stamp on the London electronic & jazz scene.
